Add Global Variables to Vue JS Templates – onlinecode
In this post, we will give you information about Add Global Variables to Vue JS Templates – onlinecode. Here we will give you detail about Add Global Variables to Vue JS Templates – onlinecode And how to use it also give you a demo for it if it is necessary.
You can’t access variables on the window
object from Vue 3 templates.
However, you can set the config.globalProperties
property on your Vue app to register global variables and methods that any template can access.
const app = Vue.createApp();
// Now any template can access 'answer' and 'capitalizeFirstLetter()'
app.config.globalProperties = {
answer: 42,
capitalizeFirstLetter(str) {
if (!str) {
return '';
}
return str.slice(0, 1).toUpperCase() + str.slice(1);
}
};
With this code, you can do {{answer}}
anywhere in a component’s template
property and 42 will render.
You can also use {{capitalizeFirstLetter(name)}}
to capitalize the first letter of the name
property in any template.
If a component has a naming conflict with config.globalProperties
, the component has the priority.
For example, if you have a component with an answer
data property, like data: () => ({ answer: 99 })
, {{answer}}
will render 99
, not the global value 42
.
When to Use Global Properties
We make heavy use of global properties for well-defined formatting logic, like the previous capitalizeFirstLetter()
example.
There are many similar cases when you want to format a string or a date in the same way across multiple components, and defining a global property saves you from having to manually define the same method on multiple components.
We only recommend using global properties for methods, not objects or values.
Global properties aren’t tied into Vue reactivity, so updating answer
won’t update answer
automatically everywhere Vue renders answer
.
We don’t recommend accessing config values, like API keys, in Vue templates, so there is no need to put API keys in config.globalProperties
.

Vue.js is a progressive JavaScript framework that makes building user interfaces simple and enjoyable. Vue is designed from the ground up to be incrementally adoptable, so you can use the features you need, and mix and match Vue with other libraries or frameworks.
Vue is a relatively new framework, but it has quickly become one of the most popular JavaScript frameworks in the world. It is used by large companies like Alibaba, Baidu, and Xiaomi, as well as by thousands of smaller businesses and startups.
Here are some of the features that make Vue.js so popular:
- Declarative rendering: Vue uses a declarative rendering model, which means that you can describe the desired output of your application in terms of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This makes it easy to reason about your code and to make changes to your application.
- Reactivity: Vue is a reactive framework, which means that it automatically updates the DOM whenever there is a change to the application’s state. This makes your application feel fast and responsive.
- Composition: Vue is a component-based framework, which means that you can build your application out of reusable components. This makes your code more maintainable and easier to test.
- Performance: Vue is a highly performant framework. It has been benchmarked against other popular JavaScript frameworks, and it has consistently outperformed them.
If you are looking for a JavaScript framework that is easy to learn, powerful, and performant, then Vue.js is a great choice.
Here are some of the things you can do with Vue.js:
- Build single-page applications
- Create user interfaces for web, mobile, and desktop applications
- Integrate with other JavaScript frameworks and libraries
- Build custom components
- Create reusable code
- Test your code
