How to remove the last character of a string in C#

Consider, we have the following string.

string s = "king";

Now, we want to remove the last character g from the above string.

Removing the last character

To remove the last character of a string, we can use the Remove() method by passing the string.Length-1 as an argument to it.

Note: In C# strings are the sequence of characters that can be accessed by using its character index, where the first character index is 0 and the last character index is string.Length-1.

Here is an example, that removes the last character g from the following string:

using System;class RemoveCharacter {  static void Main() {    string s = "king";    string result = s.Remove(s.Length-1);    Console.WriteLine(result);  }}

Output:

"kin"

Similarly, we can also use the Substring() method in C#.

using System;class RemoveCharacter {  static void Main() {    string s = "king";    string result = s.Substring(0,s.Length-1);    Console.WriteLine(result);  }}

The string.Length property returns the total number of characters in a given string.

Note: The String.Remove(), Substring() methods return a new string with the specified characters instead of modifying the original string.
