How to remove the first character of a string in C#

we are going to learn about how to remove the first character of a string in C#.

Consider, we have the following string.

string str = "king";

Now, we want to remove the first character k from the above string.

Removing the first character

To remove the first character of a string, we can use the String.Remove() method by passing the 0,1 as arguments.

Note: In C# strings are the sequence of characters that can be accessed by using its character index, where the first character index is 0 and the last character index is string.Length-1.

Here is an example, that removes the first character k from the following string:

using System;class RemoveCharacter {  static void Main() {    string s = "king";    string result = s.Remove(0,1);    Console.WriteLine(result);  }}

Output:

"ing"

In the above code, 0 is the start index and 1 is the number of characters we need to remove from the start index.

Similarly, we can also use the String.Substring() method in C#.

Note: The String.Remove(), Substring() methods return a new string with the specified characters instead of modifying the original string.
